Parents should be able to grieve without feeling shame or being shamed. Too often, people in grief groups do not how to respond when a loss is due to an addiction. There is often that little raising of the eyebrow from people who have no experience with that kind of pain. That is why we have started this group for parents who have lost a child (of any age) to alcohol or other drugs. There just has to be a safe place to grieve ... and heal. We work very hard to be that place.
Meetings are facilitated by a Licensed Professional Counselor, Charlie Berman. He is also licensed as a Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. While not from an addiction, Charlie's only daughter died in 2008 so he truly understands this kind of gut wrenching loss.
Meetings are held in The First Presbyterian Church Hall at 2 Lees Hill Rd in New Vernon (Harding Township) on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 5:30 - 7 pm. For more information on PELA or for immediate support, call or email Charlie Berman (201-602-7523 [email protected]).
We're here because we truly care. We hope you will join us.
